Best Start offers Nutritional Counseling Services, Psychosocial Counseling Services, and Pregnancy Massage Services.

Best Start offers Birth Preparation Classes to encourage women and their partners with exercise, relaxation, information and emotional preparation for birth. Classes include discussion, videos and practice to find the techniques most useful for you. Classes are a series of seven weeks held on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday evenings: 6:30-8:30 PM. The Birthing From within classes at Best Start are taught by Sunshine Chrispeels, midwife, doula, birth assistant here at Best Start and one of the 7 advanced certified BFW mentors in California. BFW classes focus on specific coping strategies for the intensity of labor including visualization, self hypnosis, and the mindset necessary to cope with the intensity of labor. Information on the basics of baby care, breastfeeding, stages of labor and nutrition are also components of the class. Birthing From Within classes cover both mind and body preparation for labor with emphasis on birth as a rite of passage and birth as experienced for all support people involved in the process. I graduated from San Diego State University in 1989 with a degree in Biology. My husband and I gave birth to our first child, Zoe in a birth center in Orlando , Florida in 2001. I then changed my career to full-time Mom. Being fascinated by pregnancy and the birthing experience, I became a DONA Certified Doula in 2002, then a Certified Childbirth Educator in 2003. I furthered my birthing experience by having our son, Evan in 2004. I support the birthing community by teaching childbirth preparation classes at several local hospitals as well as Best Start Birth Center . I also have served as Director of Teachers for the Childbirth Education Association for several years. Having a safe, peaceful and empowering birth experience can have lasting positive effects on the relationship between mother and child for the rest of their lives. My hope is that through my teaching and doula work, I can empower women to find their strength and improve the birth experience one birth at a time.
